IFR Take Off briefing
- Takeoff performance
- “Take off roll is (distance) so my abort point will be (location, RWY stripes)”
- Climb performance
- “We will expect to get (rate of climb)”
- Departure procedure
- “So based of that rate of climb what is our OPD and can we meet the requirements.”
- Take off roll
- “If there are any abnormalities (engine RPM, engine indications, or annunciators) prior to rotate, the takeoff will be aborted.”
- Below 1000 AGL
- “If the engine fails below 600’ AGL (verbalize MSL altitude), pitch for best glide, choose a field in the windscreen, and perform power off landing. “
- Above 1000 AGL
- “If the engine fails below 1000’ AGL (verbalize MSL altitude), pitch for best glide, choose a field in the windscreen, and perform power off landing. “
- Above 1000 AGL in IMC
- “Pitch for best glide and turn (left/right/straight) hold until we break out and pick a field in our windshield.”
- When considering turning back to the airport in the event of an engine failure, the pilot must take into consideration several factors. Some of these factors include: wind, terrain, physical layout of the airport, altitude, and location of the aircraft relative to the airport.
- Emergency approach
- “If we need to do an approach back into (departure airport) we will use the (selected approach)”
- Pick an approach using the Weather, equipment, and location decision making list
